What is Student Venture and why do you need money?
Student Venture is an idea - an old idea. Jesus said that the
greatest commandment was to love the Lord our God with all our
heart, soul, mind and strength. His last command to His disciples
was to "make disciples" of all nations. Student Venture
is here to help connect kids to a personal love relationship
with God, and to help them become followers of His and leaders
who help spread the message to others.
Student Venture is relational. We want to invest in kids and
help them connect in a relationship with their Creator. We love
kids because God first loved and forgave us.
Student Venture is people to people. It takes time and the impact
is deepest when people invest in kid's lives. Student Venture
meetings, either small or large group, are the most visible
thing we do, but the heart of Student Venture is helping kids
connect with the God who made them, and relationships are the
currency of our economy.
Relationships take time. And time invested takes money. While
we operate as efficiently as we can, it still takes money to
run Student Venture.
How does your fundraising work?
Here is an overview:
Student Venture is non-profit. We are the middle school and
high school ministry of an organization called Campus Crusade
for Christ, which started in 1951 by Bill and Vonette Bright.
Campus Crusade was a charter member of the Evangelical Council
for Financial Accountability and we continue as a member in
good standing to this day. We have been rated by Money Magazine
as the most efficient user of donor funds of any organization
of our type.
All of our full time staff and paid interns are responsible
for raising all of their own financial support. This pays for
their salary, benefits package, health insurance, social security,
and money for reimbursable business expenses (such as conferences,
mileage, postage, meals with students, etc). A certain small
percentage (7%) is taken out to cover Campus Crusade administration,
and 5% of all the money we raise goes overseas to help fund
ministry in countries where it is difficult to raise financial
support.
In addition, each Student Venture city staff team and Community
Resource Team raises the operating money needed for the staff
to do their ministry with students. This includes the office
expense, computers, copy machines, postage, telephone, money
for outreaches, Bibles and small group material for student
Bible study groups, scholarship money for conferences, expenses
for volunteers, fliers and communication to students and parents,
etc.
If you were to picture Student Venture as a business, it would
look like this. Each employee (full time staff and part or full
time intern) raises money so that Campus Crusade for Christ
can pay them their salary. Each staff member or intern must
raise this money before they can begin working with students.
In addition, the local team of staff and Community Resource
Team parents raise money together to pay for the ministry expenses
the staff need to be effective in their work with students.
The Student Venture fellowship dinner and golf challenge are
the primary strategies for raising this money needed for ministry.
The staff need both their salaries and their operating monies
if they are to be effective with students.
Why do the staff need an office?
For several reasons, but here are a few:
1. The office houses the computers, fax, copy machine, etc that
the staff need.
2. The office helps create an environment for staff unity, training
and communication.
3. The office gives our staff, volunteers and college interns
a place to do their work. None of the staff homes are big enough
to house our office.
The north fulton office is rented to us at less than half of
market value. Our computers are donated, the money to buy the
copy machine was donated, the phone system was purchased by
a friend of the ministry, and we clean our own office.
Because we prefer working with students to raising money, we
are as frugal as we can be. In fact, we are always happy to
learn how to save more money. And, we are very grateful to the
volunteers who help us week in and week out.
Are gifts to Student Venture tax deductible?
Yes.
How much money do you need?
The north fulton operating budget is just over $50,000. Each
staff member raises their own money and amounts vary per staff
or intern. Detailed budgets are available upon request. Our
operating calendar year runs September 1 through August 31.
What is a host family for Student Venture?
A Host Family is a family or individual who volunteers
to do 2 things over the course of a year.
Represent Student Venture to those you think should hear about
our outreach. We will provide you with some material to help
you do that.
Host a table at our annual Student Venture fellowship dinner.
This also involves filling a table of 10 (including yourselves)
at the dinner.
Do you need my help?
Yes. You can be assured that we need your help. If you are a
parent of a student involved with Student Venture, we would
like to ask you to first consider giving to help your local
Student Venture ministry with the money they need to function
effectively. That would mean giving on a monthly basis or a
special gift to the noth fulton ministry.
You may also contact the staff person you know best to see if
they need your help as well.
